During the last three years, Our Department of Breast Surgery kept on developing the cooperation with Department of Plastic Surgery, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. We held workshop of autologous tissue free flap for breast reconstruction anually in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center.

We also invited plastic surgeons from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to give lectures and surgical demonstration. Dr. Robb (Chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery), Dr. Chang (Deputy Chairman of Clinical Operations, Department of Plastic Surgery ), Dr. Yu (Associate Professor, Department of Plastic Surgery), etc, visited our center and took part in the workshop or Shanghai Breast Cancer Symposium. Among them, Dr. Peirong Yu has become one of the distinguished professors of our hospital, who visits our hospital 1-2 times per year to give lectures or to guide the clinical practice.

Gradually, the nursing staff has got familar with the observation of posteroperative patients who underwent free flaps reconstruction and has gained a couple of experiences on the judgement of vascular crises. Most complications could be discovered at a very early stage and got corrected. The operation room nurse are also trained with plastic surgoens and a professional dedicated nursing team was built for the breast reconstruction surgeries.

Start from this year, we begin to conduct free flap reconstruction surgeries such as DIEP and Muscle-sparing free TRAM breast reconstruction independently. And at present, our hospital has become the most famous breast reconstruction center for breast cancer patients, with largest series. Various mature techniques of breast reconstruction, including tissue based and implant-based reconstruction can be delivered to our patients.
