On the afternoon of March 1, a team headed by Engelberger Lukas, Health Minister of Canton Basel, Switzerland, along with Dr. Kubler Werner, President of University Hospital Basel, Prof. Weber Walter, Director of Breast Surgery, Prof. Heinzelmann Viola, Director of Gynecological Department and Prof. Landmann Regine, Head of International Affairs Department visited FUSCC . Vice President Zhen CHEN, Guangyu LIU, Deputy Director of Breast Surgery, Huijuan YANG, Deputy Director of Gynecology Department, NI Ming, Director of Anti-cancer Association and Editorial Office of FUSCC were involved in the reception.
During the meeting, VP Zhen CHEN representing FUSCC warmly welcomed Minister Engelberger Lukas, President Kubler Werner and other concerned guests from Switzerland and gave an introduction on medical, education, research and international cooperation. Minister Engelberger Lukas highly praised the thoughtful arrangement.
Basel is located in the center of Europe, adjacent to Germany and France, which has signed a cooperation agreement with Shanghai for 12 years. The two sides have cooperation programs in economic, trade, education, culture and health. Especially in the bio-pharmaceuticals, the headquarters of the world-level Novartis and Roche are located in Basel. On behalf of the state government, Minister Engelberger Lukas visited Shanghai to expand health cooperation. In a few days, he visited several hospitals in Shanghai including Zhongshan Hospital, Huashan Hospital, Ruijin Hospital and Renji Hospital to learn about Shanghai's medical and health work. It is said that the University Hospital of Basel and Fudan University, Jiaotong University School of Medicine and affiliated hospitals have established communication channels in medical research and clinical practice, and cooperation projects in Anesthesia, Oncology and Gynaecology are gradually being implemented. President Kubler Werner gave an introduction about the University Hospital of Basel with a history of more than 750 years. It has 8 treatment centers including liver transplantation and tumors, 7,219 employees, 500 researchers, and 37,891 hospitalizations. Tumor immunotherapy, tissue engineering, neuroscience, artificial intelligence and other fields are developing rapidly.
Subsequently, the two sides exchanged views on the establishment of international cooperation in breast oncology and gynecological oncology. In the future, the two sides intend to exchange and cooperate in the doctors training of gynecologic oncology.
After the meeting, the delegation visited Tissue Bank and Department of Pathology. Accompanying by the Breast Surgeon Jiajian CHEN and Gynecology Surgeon LI Jin, Prof. Weber Walter and Prof. Heinzelmann Viola visited patient ward and observed the surgery on site respectively.
