The Department of Integrative Treatment in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer (FUSCC) is founded in 2006 with a 12-bed inpatient ward. It is staffed by 7 integrative treatment physicians. In this department, daily multidisciplinary meetings are held with integrative treatment physicians, medical oncologists and nurses; and weekly meetings with an anesthesiologist, a psychiatrist, social workers, and others.
Following a cancer diagnosis and treatment, it is normal for patients to experience burdensome physical symptoms and/or psychological distress from their disease and/or the cancer treatment itself. Sometimes these symptoms require specialized care in addition to your primary cancer treatment. The department focuses on the pain management and controlling of psychological, social, spiritual problems. The aim of integrative treatment is giving the best quality of life to cancer patients and their families. Moreover, many aspects of integrative treatment can be integrated with other anti-cancer therapies in the early stage and full course of the diseases.
The services of this department include,
1. Treatment of pain and other physical symptoms, such as fatigue, nausea, constipation, poor sleep, loss of appetite, weight loss and etc.
2. Treatment of emotional symptoms, such as depression and anxiety.
3. End of life care
Department of Integrative Treatment in FUSCC is one of the pioneer departments offering integrative treatment services in Mainland China. Since 2006, there have been more 1000 patients received inpatient Integrative Treatment services. Through practice experience, the department had developed an integrative treatment service model combined with Western guidelines and special Chinese culture.
