RADIATION ONCOLOGY

 

 

The Department of Radiation Oncology was founded in 1931 as a distinguished part of Sino-Belgium Radium Institute (now FUSCC). Since its inception, the department has maintained its position as a national leader in providing expert, compassionate, prompt cancer care, high quality teaching and research. Treating more than 4,500 patients a year, the department is one of the largest in China.

 

The Department of Radiation Oncology at FUSCC now consisted of five full professors, fourteen associate professors and fourteen assistant professors, who provide the best service to our patients . Over the years, the faculty has trained the largest groups of residents in radiation oncology in China. Moreover, the Department of Radiation Oncology at FUSCC and the Department of Radiation Oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the Department of Radiation Oncology at Singapore National University have partnered in resident training to provide overseas educational opportunities. Also, there has been a program of resident’s training in various Departments of Radiation Oncology in France since 1990.

 

The Department of Radiation Oncology at FUSCC consists of three divisions that include biology, physics and clinical divisions. Using eight state-of-the-art linear accelerators, we are able to offer a full range of both conventional and high-technology patient care services, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy and image guided radiation therapy to allow radiation doses to be delivered to the tumor more accurately and thus minimize risks to adjacent normal tissue injuries. A proton and carbon treatment facility is now under construction and scheduled for patient treatment in 2013. These new initiatives provide the patients with the latest cutting-edge technology to treat cancers.
