Fudan University Cancer Institute was founded in 2012, which affiliated to Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (FDUSCC). It is based on the emerged Experimental Research Center and Breast Cancer Institute of FDUSCC, with the lab space of over 6000 square meters.
The institute consists of 11 research groups of Molecular Epidemiology, Tumor Immunology, Cancer Functional Genomics and Genetics, Cancer Epigenetics, Protein Translational Modifications, Cancer Cell Signaling, Noncoding RNAs, Tumor Microenvironment, Tumor Metastasis, Molecular Diagnosis and Targeted Therapy, etc. There are 56 members in the institute. 54 of them are scientists, researchers and technicians, including 15 associate professors and professors.
The institute’s missions are to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis and metastasis, and to translate the basic research into the clinical tumor diagnosis and therapy. The institute has established many core facilities including molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry facilities, and several research platforms including tissue bank, animal imaging, and cancer patient follow-up system, which provide good supports for academic activities, technical training, intramural and extramural collaborations. Our purpose is to accelerate professional training for hospital personnel, to foster strong research team spirit, to cultivate scientific talents, and to promote the basic and translational research of cancer medicine.
Most of the studies are supported by the grants from the National Grants of Basic Research (“973” program), the National Foundation of Natural Science in China. During the past 3 years, more than 50 papers published by the Fudan University Cancer Institute’s scientists on the renowned national or international journals. Besides, the institute also cultivates some excellent postgraduate students. About 15 graduates had got their Master or PhD degrees since 2012.
